Alesandra Seutin and Wesley Ruzibiza appointed new artistic directors of École des Sables, Senegal

We are thrilled to announce that Alesandra Seutin, founder of Vocab Dance, has been appointed the new Artistic Director of the famed École des Sables in Senegal, alongside fellow alumni Wesley Ruzibiza.

According to an official press release, the Founders of the school, Germaine Acogny and Helmut Vogt, “have decided to open a new chapter; in order to develop the past with new visions, to set up revised objectives and to let evolve, under their guidance, a new generation, the future of the École des Sables”. The Founders “decided to hand over the role of the Artistic Direction and custodian of the École des Sables to two of its former students and holders of Germaine Acogny's technical diploma.”

The École des Sables is an international centre for training and creation in traditional and contemporary African dances, based in Senegal. It was started in 1998 by dancer and choreographer Germaine Acogny, considered the mother of contemporary African dance, and her husband Helmut Vogt.
