Uprise Rebel receives Arts Council England Funding

We are pleased to announce that Uprise Rebel was recently successful in a funding application to Arts Council England to support delivery of three strands of activity, all at seed or early stage development, that are aimed at strengthening the visibility and voice of black culture and narrative within dance and the arts. Our founder, Grace Okereke, will use her leadership and producing skills to deliver or oversee the delivery of these partnership projects.

Though our core focus is to support black females, there is a wider context around supporting black culture and narrative inside of the contemporary British landscape which Uprise Rebel recognises the need to also support. This project will be the first to deliver a forward-facing agenda based on that belief. The distinct and unique difference with Uprise Rebel is that it is an initiative for black people, founded, designed and delivered by the black community, thus giving us decision-making power and control over ourselves.

There will be more exciting developments as the project continues. In the meantime, find out more about our partner companies Black Art & Design and Black People in Dance in the UK here.
