Alleyne Dance in research phase of new performance: ‘Far From Home’

We are pleased to announce that Alleyne Dance are working on a new production entitled Far From Home, which is currently in the research and development stage of the project.

The new dance production will integrates social demographics, ages and physical abilities to create a work that touches on the topic of migration and the emotional scars it can cause amongst families. With a cast brought together from within the local community and professional performers, Alleyne Dance question what consequences the search for “a better life” has for those seeking.

The sisters have been inspired by the story of British athlete Mo Farrah and his twin, who were separated as children when Mo and part of his family migrated to the UK from Somalia, whilst his brother and other family remained behind and due to an outbreak of civil war, did not reconnect until they were adults – severing their strong sibling connectivity. Kristina and Sadé want to investigate the impact of migration caused through social and economic strife and the emotional scares it can cause amongst families. Alongside this, they want to explore the wider impact of migration on the local communities who receive the new residents.

Rehearsals for the project are due to start in Spring 2021. More information to follow.
