Alesandra Seutin new interactive dance film: ‘Inside Head’
We are pleased to announce that Alesandra Seutin, founder of Vocab Dance, is currently working on a new interactive dance film entitled Inside Head. Commissioned by The Place and The Wellcome Collection, both in London, Inside Head is an off-shoot of the stage work Boy Breaking Glass, due to tour in Autumn 2021. It focusses on on the protagonist character – the Boy who breaks glass – and his introspective reflection of the obstacles he faces as a young black man, and the affects they have on his life.
The short interactive dance film depicts the challenges faced when typecast by race and gender and responds to the question “What does it mean to be human now?”, by deconstructing stereotype and humanising the person behind other people’s preconceptions. The Boy breaks glass around him as he struggles with the ability to break the glass ceiling placed above him, is symbolic of the lived experiences faced by many black people. The work will also touch on mental health, especially the affects it has on black men, as they grapple with pressures of post 20th century and early 21st century expectation of masculinity.
Inside Head is due to be released in Spring 2021, dates to follow shortly.
